The Hinsdale School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Scott Carroll as its next Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Carroll was appointed by a unanimous vote at a regular meeting of the Board of Education on May 12, 2026.
Mr. Carroll ’s career in education began in 2006 as a school counselor with the Avoca Central School District. He also served as Avoca’s Academic Services Coordinator and Athletic Director before his appointment as an Assistant Principal in the Hornell City School District in 2012. Mr. Carroll was appointed as the Hornell High School Principal in 2015 was instrumental in its transition building to a 7-12 Junior/ Senior High School in 2018. Mr. Carroll returned to Avoca as their High School Principal in 2022 and was appointed as the School Business Official in the Geneseo Central School District in 2024 where he was responsible for the District’s fiscal and facilities management and civil service personnel operation. Mr. Carroll currently serves as a counselor and home school liaison for Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES 6:1:1 Special Education program.
Mr. Carroll earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication and a Master of Science degree in Education with a concentration in school counseling from St. Bonaventure University. He received a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from Alfred University in 2010 and earned a Certificate of Advanced Study and NYS certification as a School Business Leader from SUNY Cortland in 2024.
Mr. Carroll is passionate about the power of education for kids and excited to begin his entry into the Hinsdale community. “I am both humbled and honored to be named the next Superintendent of Hinsdale Central School District. It will be a privilege to serve as the leader of Bobcat nation. I look forward to meeting students, families and staff- building relationships, and continuing to strengthen community trust and engagement.”
Board President Nanci Hurlburt is enthused about the opportunity his appointment offers for the Hinsdale community. “The Board is delighted to welcome Mr. Carroll to Hinsdale as our new Superintendent. He has a strong vision of effective schooling and a passion for building relationships with students, staff and the school community. He brings years of successful school leadership experience and his sound understanding of fiscal and facilities management will be critical to our community in the years ahead. We believe these traits will make him a valuable asset as we continue our quest to provide high quality education for the Hinsdale community in the future.”
The Board of Education selected Mr. Carroll after a rigorous selection process that began with the screening of qualified applicants and selection of four candidates for interviews by the Board and a Community Focus Group. Those semi-finalists were reduced to two finalist candidates interviewed by the Board late last month. Mrs. Hurlburt added, “The Board was very pleased with the search process. The quality of the candidates was quite strong. We were especially impressed by the commitment and engagement of the Community Focus group. The feedback offered by the students, staff, parents and community members was quite valuable throughout our discussions.”
Mr. Carroll lives in Hornell, with his wife, Maureen and three children. He is set to assume his duties as Superintendent on July 1, 2026.
